# Decent Cocktails > Cocktail recipes from published cocktail books, every ingredient weighed in grams and every step described, made to be mixed on the Half Decent Scale. Each recipe also has Decent's own one-line description, alcohol (ABV after dilution), sugar and acid figures, and comparisons with similar drinks. A free, read-only JSON API serves the same data. Decent Cocktails is published by Decent Espresso Ltd at https://decentespresso.com/cocktails/. It covers two books: - The PDT Cocktail Book (Jim Meehan, Sterling Epicure, 2011): https://decentespresso.com/cocktails/pdt/ - Death & Co: Modern Classic Cocktails (David Kaplan, Nick Fauchald and Alex Day, Ten Speed Press, 2014): https://decentespresso.com/cocktails/deathco/ ## Using this data, and how to credit it - Decent's own content is licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (CC BY 4.0, https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/), to the extent Decent Espresso Ltd holds rights in it: the drink descriptions, similar-drink comparisons and taste notes, the method wording, the computed ABV/sugar/acid figures, and the AI-generated drink and glass pictures. - The recipe facts (drink names, ingredients and amounts, glass, garnish and creator credits) come from the books named above. Facts like these can't be copyrighted (US Copyright Office, Circular 33: a "mere listing of ingredients" is not protected), so Decent claims no rights in them and offers no licence for them. None of the books' own writing (stories, descriptions, instructions) is reproduced; the method wording is Decent's. Please buy the books. - Some drink names are also trademarks (Sazerac, for example); they belong to their owners and are used only to name the drink. - Product photographs, label artwork and trademarks of third parties are not covered by any licence from Decent. - When you use or quote this data, credit "Decent Cocktails" with a link to the recipe's page, and name the source book. For example: "Naked and Famous, from Decent Cocktails (https://decentespresso.com/cocktails/deathco/recipes/Naked%20and%20Famous), after Death & Co: Modern Classic Cocktails by David Kaplan, Nick Fauchald and Alex Day." Every API response includes a ready-made `cite_as` line and a `license` block. ## MCP server (Claude and other AI assistants) - `https://decentespresso.com/cocktails/mcp` is a Model Context Protocol server for Decent Cocktails. Add it as a custom connector in Claude (or ChatGPT and other MCP apps), or `claude mcp add --transport http decent-cocktails https://decentespresso.com/cocktails/mcp`. Opened in a browser, it lists its tools. - No account needed: `list_books`, `search_cocktails`, `get_recipe`, `get_ingredient`, `list_cocktails`, `list_ingredients`. - With a free decentespresso.com account: Your Bar (`my_bar`, `bar_add`, `bar_remove`, `bar_location`), `what_can_i_make` (with what's one ingredient away and what to buy), and the Wishlist and Made lists (`my_lists`, `mark_cocktail`), shared with the website. Use `https://decentespresso.com/cocktails/mcp/account` to sign in when connecting (OAuth: the person signs in on decentespresso.com's own page); `sign_in` gives the steps. The login only reaches the person's bar and lists. ## API - [API guide](https://decentespresso.com/cocktails/api/) (Markdown): the books, endpoints with examples, rate limit and licence - [API index as JSON](https://decentespresso.com/cocktails/api/index.json) - [OpenAPI description](https://decentespresso.com/cocktails/api/openapi.json) - One recipe in full: `GET /cocktails/api/{book}/recipes/{name}` (book is `pdt` or `deathco`; name URL-encoded, e.g. `/cocktails/api/deathco/recipes/Naked%20and%20Famous`). This returns ingredients with amounts and grams, method, glass, creator credit, ABV/sugar/acid, similar drinks, the same cocktail in the other books, picture, source book, licence and cite_as. - Recipe names, 50 at a time: `GET /cocktails/api/{book}/recipes?offset=0&limit=50` - Ingredients: `GET /cocktails/api/{book}/ingredients` and `GET /cocktails/api/{book}/ingredients/{name}` - Search: `GET /cocktails/api/{book}/search?q=mezcal` - Pictures: a recipe's `images` and `glass_images` give the drink's and the glass's picture in every size: `png` (1024px master), `avif` and `jpg` (as shown), `thumb` (192px), `zoom` (margins trimmed), `crop` (trimmed to the glass) and `baseline`. The [API guide](https://decentespresso.com/cocktails/api/) lists how the file names are made. Ingredient pictures are not in the API (many are product photos). - Limit: 60 requests per minute per IP. No bulk download; please fetch only the recipes you need. - A logged-in member's own data (Liked, Made, notes, Your Bar, settings): `GET /cocktails/api/me`, changed one item at a time with `PUT`/`DELETE` (see the API guide's "Your own data" section). Login is the website's cookies or an OAuth bearer token. ## Pages - [All PDT recipes](https://decentespresso.com/cocktails/pdt/recipes/) - [All Death & Co recipes](https://decentespresso.com/cocktails/deathco/recipes/) - [Cocktails by base spirit](https://decentespresso.com/cocktails/deathco/spirits) - [Half Decent Scale](https://decentespresso.com/scale): the Bluetooth scale the recipes are written for ## Using the website as an agent (WebMCP tools) Every page of the site registers what a visitor can do there as named tools, so a browser agent can use it without clicking: through WebMCP (`document.modelContext` / `navigator.modelContext`, in Chrome 149 and later), and on any browser as `window.decentAgent` (`decentAgent.tools()` lists them, `await decentAgent.call(name, args)` runs one). The tools differ by page; `get_page_info` names the current page's tools. - Everywhere: `get_page_info`, `list_books`, `go_to` (books, home, recipes, spirits, ingredients, glasses, usage, bar, login, ...), `search`, `open_recipe`, `open_ingredient`, `open_spirit` (with an optional mixer), `open_glass`, `open_category`, `get_recipe` (the recipe as JSON), `list_links`, `follow_link`, `press_button`, `scroll_page`, `sort_list`. - Recipe pages: `set_drinks` (scale the recipe), `set_mark` (Wishlist / Made, logged in), `set_comment`, `view_photo`, `similar_cocktails`, `open_in_other_book`, and making it on the Half Decent Scale: `make_with_scale`, `maker_connect`, `maker_status`, `maker_wait`, `maker_next`, `maker_prev`, `maker_close`. - Ingredient pages: `add_this_ingredient_to_bar`. Your Bar: `bar_status`, `bar_open_tab`, `bar_add_ingredient`, `bar_add_by_hand`, `bar_remove_ingredient`, `bar_location`, `bar_hide_unmakeable`. Login page: `log_in`. - `set_presentation_mode` shows a pointer that moves to and clicks each control a tool uses (for screen recordings); `highlight` outlines a part of the page with a caption. Tools that load another page answer first with `navigating_to`; list the tools again once it has loaded.
